Kamal Thapen
ATCA Board member since 2026
Kamal Thapen trained as an Alexander Technique teacher with Walter Carrington following a long and successful career in business. Alongside his private practice teaching the Alexander Technique and T’ai Chi, he served for ten years as assistant to Brita Forsström at the City Alexander Technique School in London, which closed in 2023. Kamal currently teaches at two leading adult education colleges in London: City Lit in Holborn and South Thames College in Wandsworth.
Committed to bringing the Alexander Technique into mainstream education, business, industry and healthcare, Kamal co-founded HITE Limited. HITE is an Alexander Technique based training and publishing company that has produced eleven books on the Technique, as well as a T’ai Chi DVD.
Kamal has contributed extensively to the professional community on a voluntary basis. He is a former Chair and Director of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) and currently serves as a Director of the Friends of the Alexander Technique, the charity for the F. Matthias Alexander Technique. He is also Chair of Trustees of the FM Alexander Trust and was a founding member and Director of The European School of T’ai Chi Ch’uan. In 2025, Kamal was a Co-Director of the 13th International Alexander Technique Congress held in Dublin.
